The Muskokas

A few weeks ago I planned a weekend surprise trip for my husband to The Muskokas.  I decided that we would stay at Deerhurst Resort because if it was good enough for the G8 summit, it would probably be good enough for the five of us.  Saturday & Sunday's weather forecast called for rain, rain and more rain.  We were certain that we would spend the majority of the trip indoors.  In actuality, it did not rain once!  We were surrounded by sunshine, warm temperatures and beautiful fall colors.  Highlights included kayaking in the lake, off-roading in a Hummer, hiking the "Lookout Trail" and enjoying the night skies without the Toronto light pollution.  I really have no words for this trip.  It was absolutely amazing and I can't wait to return.  I hope these photos convey even a small iota of the beauty of this magnificent location.

Apple Picking

Oh, the Lord’s been good to me.

And so I thank the Lord

For giving me the things I need:

The sun, the rain and the apple seed;

Oh, the Lord’s been good to me.

Toronto Ukrainian Festival

We spent the afternoon at the Toronto Ukrainian Festival.  Alex especially enjoyed eating varenyky and wearing his Ukrainian shirt.  This festival is the largest Ukrainian festival in North America . . . lots of booths, food stands and costumes.  There was also a stand that was selling Mexican churros - which didn't really fit with the whole "Ukrainian" theme but made for a yummy dessert!

First Day of School - 2011

I sent Tyler, Hannah and Alex off to school this morning - and they were all EXCITED to go!  I was the only one feeling sad about summer being over.  They were all smiles!

The start of the school year did elicit some classic conversations between me and my eager scholars . . .

Tyler:  Are you going to make me stand by the sign and get my photo taken when I go to college?

Me:  Yes.

Hannah:  Since we have to wear uniforms, I am going to wear a ribbon in my hair everyday.  That way, people will always know me as "the girl with the ribbon in her hair" and won't confuse me with anyone else.

Me:  ???

During nightly prayers . . .

Me:  Lord, please help Alex have a good day at school.  I hope he meets nice friends and has a nice teacher.

Alex:  Lord, please don't let my mom be lonely when I go to school.

Me:  Lord, THANK YOU for such an adorable sweet boy!

So all in all, I think everyone had a great day.  We had a great summer and I'm sad to see it end but I'm looking forward to the adventures 8th, 6th and 3rd grade will bring!!
